Promotional session – BiH Green Building Council

Today, June 28, 2024, in the premises of the Europe House, Sarajevo, the promotional event was held with the aim of strengthening the Green Building Council of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the idea to network national councils for green construction in the region of the Western Balkans. The event has more than 60 attendees willing to introduce market changes towards green building practices.

The event was opened by representatives of the RECONOMY program and representatives of the energy-efficient construction and renovation project, Ali Damadžić, program officer of CeProSARD for BiH and Montenegro, Emilija Jovanova Stoilkova, regional manager for the Western Balkans for RECONOMY from Helvetas, and Risto Ivanov, project manager from CeProSARD.

In their presentations, they pointed out that the construction sector is one of the main sectors that must make changes in the direction of its digitalization, and establish new practices that will bring green regulations for construction and reducing energy consumption.

Melisa Gazdić and Isa Zuhrić from the Green Building Council BiH presented the GBC, their successful projects that they have implemented so far and announced future projects with which they plan to strengthen this important institution that can lead green construction in BiH.

Venera Simonović and Sanela Klarić, as technical experts within the Green Building Council, presented ways of green certification, which is a way of quantifying and valuing buildings in terms of responsibility towards environmental protection and energy efficiency. Steven Borncamp, in front of the Romanian GBC, presented the SmarterFinance 4EU project through which the GBC in Bosnia and Herzegovina also got the possibility of green certification.

Dean Smolar, executive director of the Croatian Green Building Council, presented the management methods of the National Green Building Council, the advantages it brings to society and the construction sector itself. He pointed out that he will continue to support all councils for green construction in the region, including GBC BiH, during the duration of the project.
